ORGANIZATIONS

American Society of Acupuncturists: The ASA represents state-association members and licensed professionals who practice acupuncture in all its forms. (website coming soon)

National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) Mission: Assure the safety and well-being of the public and to advance the professional practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine by establishing and promoting national evidence-based standards of competence and credentialing.

Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) Mission: Operate as a national accrediting commission for established acupuncture and Oriental medicine schools and colleges providing a program of instruction for the training of entry level practitioners, as well as degree-granting programs; Develop, encourage, maintain, and improve sound educational standards and to promote the interest common to both colleges and schools, including to encourage research and teaching in the science, art, use and application of traditional oriental medicine as these activities enhance the purposes stated herein; Encourage the improvement of the conditions of education and practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine within the United States.

Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Mission:  Advance acupuncture and Oriental medicine by promoting educational excellence within the field.

National Center for Acupuncture Safety and Integrity (NCASI) Mission: Advocate for the public’s right to safety, accountability and transparency in treatments that involve the therapeutic use of needles, most commonly known as acupuncture needles.

Coalition for Safe Acupuncture Practice (CSAP) Mission: CSAP exists to provide a forum for responding to issues that affect the safe practice of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine generally and impact Licensed Acupuncturists specifically in the United States.

American Organization for the Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA) Mission: Provide our members with education and networking opportunities and to support their personal and professional development and success.

Society for Acupuncture Research (SAR) Mission: Advance and disseminate scientific research into acupuncture and related therapies to inform global health care; Strengthen evidence informed practice; Catalyze inter/trans-disciplinary research that can lead to novel insights into basic physiology and human health; Advance knowledge about acupuncture among the health care community at large; Inform the effective integration of acupuncture into conventional health care settings and increase access and quality of patient care; Seek fundamental scientific knowledge, while honoring the integrity of acupuncture as a traditional system of care.

 

International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) Mission: Provide, promote and support veterinary acupuncture and related treatment modalities through quality basic, advanced and continuing education; internationally recognized certification for veterinarians; and support responsible research.

American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture (AAVA) Mission: Improve animal health care by the advancement of veterinary acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and Traditional Eastern Medicine through education, research and leadership.

Association of Korean Oriental Medicine Mission: Improve the health and social welfare of the people, promoting scientific research and friendship among members, standing up for the interests of the members and establishing order in medical system.

Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine Mission:  Engage a global community of health professionals and health seekers in innovative education, certification, leadership, inter-professional collaboration, research, and advocacy that embraces all global healing traditions, to promote the creation of health and the delivery of evidence-informed comprehensive, affordable, sustainable person-centered care.

JOURNALS AND PUBLICATIONS

Meridians: The Journal of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine: A Medline compliant, peer reviewed journal features scientific articles focusing on the professional practice of acupuncture and Oriental medicine. The journal welcomes papers from published and first-time authors on aspects of acupuncture and Oriental medicine including original research, education, clinical practice, case reports, meta-analyses, business practice, policy, ethics, law, history and culture, nomenclature, translations and related disciplines.

Journal of the British Medical Acupuncture Society:  Promote the scientific understanding of acupuncture and related treatments by publishing scientific investigations of their effectiveness and modes of action as well as articles on their use in health services and clinical practice.
