Who We Are

Our organization is a member-supported professional association. We hold as our purpose the betterment of the profession of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and seek to promote the health and safety of the Iowa public through educational, supportive, and/or legislative representation of the Licensed Acupuncture Profession and will continually seek high standards of clinical excellence.


 Philosophy

IAOMA acknowledges and respects all traditions of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, and believes that cooperation and strength among practitioners and supporters will ensure this ancient medical art will retain its integrity and achieve the recognition and legal status to which it is entitled.


Mission Statement

We pledge to serve as the official representative body and spokesperson for Acupuncturists in the state of Iowa.

We will protect in every way the philosophy, science, and art of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

We will establish where necessary, and maintain where already existing, the practice of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine as a separate and distinct primary care healing art and profession in the state of Iowa.

We will educate legislators, regulators, and the general public regarding the nature and scope of practice of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.

We will develop, where necessary, and maintain standards of educational and professional competence to ensure patient safety. We will protect the rights of patients.

We will strive to develop health research programs and foster inter-professional relationships.
